Refrigerants are substances used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems for heat transfer and cooling. They evaporate at low temperatures and condense at higher temperatures. There are natural refrigerants (e.g., ammonia, CO2, propane) and synthetic refrigerants (e.g., HFCs, HCFCs, HFOs). Choosing the right refrigerant is crucial for energy efficiency, environmental compatibility, and safety. Modern refrigerants have a lower global warming potential (GWP) and are less harmful to the ozone layer. Their development is subject to strict regulations to minimize environmental impacts. When designing refrigeration and air conditioning systems, the specific properties of the refrigerants must be considered to ensure optimal performance and safety.
